Student Team Basics

*In our ministry the language will often resemble that of coaching. God has called ministers to be shepherds of his people. Shepherding is a profession that is far removed from most Americans. I believe coaching is a more modern profession that shares many things in common with shepherding. Because of the prevalence of sports, I believe sports language is more universal than any other coaching language (such as band or drama coaching). There is no intention to elevate sports above art. For a definition of terms, check out the miscellaneous documents you can download under the "links" button above. The "links" button will also guide to many important resources, such as the latest messages given or helpful websites for parents.

Our team is for grades 7 -12 (JR High School & SR High School). We have one common meeting time for both age groups on Sunday mornings (see "Sunday Morning Practices" button above for times) and multiple creatively blended practices throughout the weeks and months of the year.

  • Midweek Huddle (see "Midweek Huddle" button above for more details) is our Tuesday evening youth group
  • Coaching Clinics (see "Coaching Clinics" button above for more details) are our small group accountability groups

Philosophy of Coaching

Our philosophy of coaching - the reasoning behind every event and contact - can be summed up in five succinct points. They are as follows:

  1. Love - God, the Owner, is love and He commands us to love Himself and all others. Everything we do in coaching should flow out of love for God and others.
  2. Prayer - Jesus, the Manager, spent much alone time praying. We also should bathe our lives and coaching in prayer.
  3. Relational - The Manager left heaven to penetrate Earth's culture and form relationships with men. It is our goal as a team to penetrate the players' culture to form relationships with them.
  4. Service - The Owner has called us to serve, just as He Himself "did not come to be served, but to serve." (Matt. 20:28)
  5. Coaching - We hope to leave a legacy behind. Wherever we are, whatever we are doing we strive to train players, who train other players, who train other players, who train...

Our Game Plan:

We exist to train and equip Christ-like disciples by forming relationships in community, both locally and globally, for the purpose of spiritual, intentional and accountable growth and maturity.
