Good morning friends,
Quote of the week:
Younger adults especially have been told repeatedly that “no one has the right to tell others what to believe — so you should not be trying to convert anyone.” This very statement, of course, is self-contradictory, since it is doing the very thing it forbids. Nevertheless, it is a slogan with enormous cultural power, and it is hard for younger Christians not to be swayed by it. – Tim Keller
Now, here are your weekly links:
- Sean and Josh McDowell on the Impact of Reasonable Faith – YouTube – In today’s post-Christian culture, more and more young people are being challenged on the central beliefs Christian have held dear for centuries. Even those raised in the church can fall into a season of doubt. Just listen to well-known speaker and author Sean McDowell, son of renowned apologist Josh McDowell: “I grew up in a home where I learned how to defend Christianity, but hit a point in my life of serious doubts. I was seriously questioning my faith, and relied heavily upon apologetics. I thank God for two professors in particular, William Lane Craig and JP Moreland, whose writings and talks helped me systematically work through my doubts.” Both Sean and Josh know that everyone has a faith story, but not everyone knows the solid reasons upon which their faith rests. : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIs_BcURsTE

- Discerning Truth: Discoveries of the James Webb Space Telescope – What makes the JWST so amazing? And what has it discovered? Are recent images and data of the distant universe compatible with the big bang? Or do they confirm biblical creation? In this video, Dr. Jason Lisle gives a bunch of fascinating information about how the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) work and why we needed the JWST. He then breaks down the predictions that non-Christian secularists made regarding the data they expected to receive from the JWST that would confirm their predictions in accordance with the Big Bang theory of cosmology. Then he also discusses his own predictions (based on his biblical worldview). Then he also had predicted what non-Christian secularists would say when their predictions about the JWST data failed. This is so good, in my opinion. I think the intelligence of Dr. Jason Lisle shines forth in this video. Now I’m sure that non-Christian secular scientists consider him a “quack” or a “snake oil salesman”. And I’m sure that there are responses to this video (which I have not watched), but the argumentation approach used by Lisle is solid. I think he employs the “taking the roof off” approach. He “tries on” the secular assumptions and assumes they’re true and then shows that those assumptions lead to incorrect conclusions in light of the actual data. It is a 53-minute presentation, but I think it is well worth the time to watch it: https://rumble.com/v772ycs-discerning-truth-discoveries-of-the-james-webb-space-telescope.html
- On the Origin of Articles | Biblical Science Institute – Tasteful satire can be a great way to refute faulty reasoning. Satire exposes human folly by pretending to advocate a bad position in a way that exposes its absurdity. It is an application of Proverbs 26:4-5. We don’t “answer the fool according to his folly” in actuality or we would be like him. But we do “answer the fool according to his folly” as a hypothetical for the purpose of revealing his absurdity. In logic, this method of refutation is called a reductio ad absurdum. We push the bad argument to its inevitable, obviously absurd conclusion, often by applying the same reasoning to a similar but more obvious situation. Evolutionists use very poor reasoning when they attempt to argue for particles-to-people evolution. The article below exposes this by showing how that same reasoning leads to the conclusion that articles have no authors! If that conclusion is unreasonable, then so is particles-to-people evolution, because the reasoning is the same.: https://biblicalscienceinstitute.com/apologetics/on-the-origin-of-articles/
- The S.L.E.D. Test – The SLED Test is a simple argument against abortion. The pro-life view is that the unborn are human beings just like you and me. That’s why it’s wrong to kill them. Although many abortion-choice advocates agree the unborn are human, they deny they are valuable human beings. They think this distinction justifies killing the unborn. Often they use personhood language to express this view. They say the unborn might be human, but it’s not a person. When confronted with this claim, ask a simple question: “What’s the difference between a human being and a human person?” They must answer this question. Why? They’ve just made the incredible claim that there are human beings that can be killed with impunity because they are not persons. What are their reasons for this view? What’s the difference between a born human and an unborn one that justifies killing the latter?: https://www.str.org/web/guest/w/the-sled-test
- America: A Christian or a Secularist Nation? – Wall Builders – The idea Adams was a secularist becomes even less plausible if one considers other comments he made about the Christian nature of America’s governments. For example, in describing a reply he wrote to the young men of Philadelphia, Adams told Thomas Jefferson: The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the only principles in which that beautiful assembly of young gentlemen could unite, and these principles only could be intended by them in their address, or by me in my answer. And what were these general principles? I answer, the general principles of Christianity, in which all those sects were united; and the general principles of English and American liberty, in which all these young men united and which had united all parties in America in majorities sufficient to assert and maintain her independence. Now I will avow that I then believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.: https://wallbuilders.com/resource/america-a-christian-or-a-secularist-nation/
- Kennedy Classics – Saved or Lost? – YouTube – On April 10 1912, the RMS Titanic departed Southampton, England on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. Because of the technology used to build it the Titanic was thought to be unsinkable. Four days into its voyage the Titanic was sailing along smoothly until the unthinkable happened. That unsinkable ship struck an iceberg and descended 12,000 feet into the ocean depths causing 1,500 people to perish. One of the main reasons for the high amount of casualties was because there weren’t enough lifeboats on board. Only 700 people survived the disaster. In a way, you and I are in a similar situation as the passengers on the Titanic today. How so? Dr. D. James Kennedy explains in his gripping message, ”Saved or Lost.”: https://youtu.be/Sle9WjtIwz4?si=_bhff5D8GCa67Wjs&t=142

- Jehovah’s Witnesses Throw the Book at Jesus | Catholic Answers Magazine – There are various objections to the divinity of Jesus, which are still held today by one of the fastest growing religions: Jehovah’s Witnesses. They even have defenders arguing for their position from Scripture, such as in Greg Stafford’s book, Jehovah’s Witnesses Defended. Some major objections to Jesus’s deity find their support in Mark 13:32, John 14:28, and John 20:17. These passages are confusing when we compare them to passages that imply the divinity of Jesus, such as when he walked on water, forgave people their sins, etc. Thankfully, the Church Fathers can help us understand how to interpret them.: https://www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/jehovahs-witnesses-throw-the-book-at-jesus
- Dr. Gary R. Habermas – Online Resource for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ – Free PDF book. Jesus claimed to be Deity, but does this make him unique? Dig into this easy-to-read examination of this serious topic with Dr. Gary Habermas to see just how unusual this claim really is. Then realize that there’s even more to consider than this! Jesus said that he was the path to salvation. Very early sources tell us that he performed supernatural miracles. Jesus and his followers said that his death served the purpose of saving others, dying in their place. Jesus’ death affirms and explains the reality of suffering and death in the world. And finally, and perhaps most importantly, Jesus is unique in rising from the dead bodily. When these ideas are all combined, especially the powerful combination of the Resurrection and the Gospel, Jesus stands dramatically apart as unique in a way that surpasses all others!: https://www.garyhabermas.com/Evidence2/

- Does phosphine prove life on Venus? | Creation.com – Phosphine is an extremely toxic gas that is used to fumigate rats in a building. It is also very important in hi-tech industry, because it is used to add phosphorus atoms to silicon wafers to make n-type semiconductors. These are used in some of the best LEDs, solar panels, and computer chips. “Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.” “You are not yet fifty years old,” the Jews said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!” “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds. John 8:56-59
