mid-week apologetics booster (1-12-2023)

Good morning friends, Quote of the week: Worldviews are like the air we breathe: both oxygen and carbon monoxide are transparent, yet one sustains life while the other brings death. – Stanley Ward Now, here are your weekly links:

Can We Trust the Gospels? by Peter Williams review – A great short but informative book defending the reliability of the Gospels. Can We Trust the Gospel? is written in a readable style, and is loaded with helpful charts and tables. Thus, we can trust the content and believe in the One whom the Gospels talk about. The Gospel authors clearly knew much about local customs, place names, and personal names. This is not surprising if the writers were close in time and place to the events, but impossible if they wrote long after and from a distant location. The different authors record many incidental details that inadvertently corroborate each other’s accuracy.: https://creation.com/can-we-trust-the-gospels-williams
Can We Resist the Green Dragon in the Coming Year? To the secular left, climate is king. Maybe I should say it is a god. Environmentalism has become a religion. People enthusiastically worship mother earth and scoff at God the Father. This has been a fifty-year process that officially began in the early 1970s with Earth Day. The left decided that anyone who disrespected the earth was suspect. So, how far will they go? Many voices are warning of climate lockdowns coming in 2023: https://files.constantcontact.com/07945898001/07988157-343f-4d8e-8ab0-20be19a488a4.pdf?rdr=true

But is there any actual evidence for those claims? ICR paleobiochemist clarifies this subject during a live Q&A on a college campus.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8iLs11dzy8

The Claims Of The Bible Part 3 | Erwin Lutzer – The Bible claims over 1500 times that it is God’s Word. Many would question if there are too many contradictions to be trusted. In this message, we ponder three conclusive claims about the written Word of God. Either this books original manuscripts are entirely true, or totally unreliable and fictitious. : https://www.moodymedia.org/radio-programs/running-to-win-15/the-claims-of-the-bible-part-3/
Atheist atrocities fallacy? Some atheists have talked about what they’ve dubbed the atheist atrocities fallacy. What is it? It’s not a standard logical fallacy (either formal or informal). It’s a name some atheists have given to a common response Christians give to the common atheistic complaint that much evil has been done in the name of Christ (or religion). How does it work? Atheists often say that there must be something rotten at the core of Christianity because so much evil has been done in the name of Christ. Christians then often retort that as much or more evil has been done by atheistic regimes (e.g. the Communist dictatorships of Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot).: https://creation.com/atheist-atrocities-fallacy

What Is a Cult? | Apologetics Resource Center – What do you think of when you hear the word cult? For many of us, that word conjures up images of Jim Jones and Jonestown, Guiana, where some 900 people in Jones Peoples Temple followed his instructions and committed suicide by drinking Kool-Aid laced with cyanide. Or we may think of David Koresh and his Branch Davidians fatal encounter with federal agents. Even more recent was the suicide of 39 members of the Heavens Gate UFO cult. On the other hand, some people follow a more cynical definition of a cult as the church down the street from yours.: https://arcapologetics.org/what-is-a-cult-2/
The Hardest Question to Answer – The hardest question to answer begins with Why would God…? For example, why would God create Lucifer if He knew he would rebel and become Satan? Why would God create some humans He knew He would send to Hell? Why is God willing to allow a two-year-old girl to suffer with an incurable condition for a year and then die? Why did God choose to send Jesus to Earth in the first century?: https://www.str.org/w/the-hardest-question-to-answer
I Came to Faith Through Apologetics | Cold Case Christianity – I’m sometimes surprised at how many people have a story similar to my own. A few years back, Abdu Murray (an ex-Muslim) interviewed me for his radio show and told me about the role evidence played in his own conversion story. When skeptics of apologetics (usually Christians) tell me they’ve never met anyone who came to faith through apologetics, I typically tell them they know at least one person, if they know me. My journey to the cross is outlined in Cold-Case Christianity as I recount the evidence God used to bring me to the truth. When someone says they came to faith through apologetics or they became a Christian through the evidence, I usually take the time to ask them what they really mean when using these expressions.: https://coldcasechristianity.com/writings/i-came-to-faith-through-apologetics/

Cartoon Explaining Jehovah’s Witnesses – YouTube – This video is for the education of the saints. Jehovah’s Witnesses are not saved because they do not believe that Jesus rules in Heaven and still exists as the Son of God and not as a created archangel. Jesus Christ always existed and was not created because He and the Father are one and God is eternal (has no beginning and no end).: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVDPQq9EGtk

Should Christians pursue advanced degrees? I eagerly encourage all Christian students who have the intellectual aptitude, calling, and desire to pursue an advanced degree to go ahead and do it. And do it with all their might! Our society is in dire need of more Christians in academia to reclaim science for God. Whether we realize it or not, many of the drastic shifts from Christian values we see in society today have advanced in society due to the strategic work of activists starting in the academic system.: https://creation.com/christians-advanced-degrees

You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. Romans 8:9 Blessings to you all
